Terms of Use and Privacy Policy

The Illinois FOP Labor Council provides this website and the ILFOPLC mobile application to share news, information, and services with members. This policy explains the terms of use and how we handle information associated with the website and app.

Terms of Use

Information on This Website

We make reasonable efforts to keep information accurate and current. However, we cannot guarantee that all information will be complete, accurate, or available at all times.

News, legal updates, and other general information published here should not replace advice about an individual employment or representation matter. Members needing assistance should contact the Labor Council directly.

Website Availability and External Links

The website and app may occasionally be unavailable because of maintenance or technical issues.

We may link to other websites for additional information. Those websites operate independently, and we do not control their content, availability, or privacy practices. Including a link does not necessarily constitute an endorsement.

Appropriate Use

You may not use the website or app for unlawful purposes, attempt to gain unauthorized access to systems or information, or interfere with their operation.

Privacy Policy

Our Commitment

We collect and use information to provide membership services, communicate with members, verify eligibility for member activities, and maintain the performance and security of our website and app.

We do not sell or rent personal information, give it away for unrelated purposes, or share it for third-party advertising or marketing. We limit sharing with service providers to what is necessary to operate and deliver our services.

Our emails about events, services, and important legal developments are member communications provided as part of the services our members receive.

Website Information and Technical Data

Our website serves as an information resource, news source, and registration point for the Annual Meeting. It does not provide public forums, comments, or user-submitted content.

When you visit the website, our systems collect technical information such as your IP address, the pages or resources accessed, and the time of access. Technical information may also include browser and device information.

We use this information to operate the website, monitor performance, troubleshoot problems, and maintain security. We do not use it for advertising or resale.

Website access logs are rotated every 30 days.

We use a cookie to better tailor content to returning visitors, including recommending articles they have not already read. The cookie is stored in your browser for approximately one year. Its identifier is also stored with article-view records on our server so that we can recognize previously viewed articles. We do not use this information for advertising or share it for third-party marketing.

Email Addresses and Member Communications

We maintain email addresses for member communications. Addresses submitted through the website are used to keep members informed about upcoming events, services, and important developments.

Where appropriate, we may update an existing member’s email address after verifying the other information provided against our membership records.

We use Constant Contact to deliver email communications. Information necessary to deliver and manage those communications is processed through that service.

Email addresses are retained indefinitely as part of our contact records. Every mailing-list message includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops messages from that mailing list; it does not necessarily remove an address from existing membership records.

Annual Meeting Registration and Membership Verification

The Annual Meeting is free of charge. Registration collects names, addresses, contact details, and registration selections. We collect no financial information for Annual Meeting registration.

We check registration information against existing membership rosters to verify eligibility and investigate discrepancies when necessary. Registration requires an existing membership record. Verified information may also be used to update a member’s record.

Our underlying membership information is provided by members’ employers so that we can represent those members.

Physical Meeting and Voting Records

Annual Meeting registration forms are printed, and attendance signatures are collected in person. Registration forms and attendance records are retained indefinitely as paper records in physical storage.

We do not maintain a digital archive of Annual Meeting registration, attendance, or voting records.

Votes are collected and counted physically. Ballots are handled and disposed of under the procedures governing the meeting’s parliamentary process.

ILFOPLC Mobile Application

The ILFOPLC app may process technical and diagnostic information, including IP addresses, device identifiers, operating-system information, usage information, and error reports.

Some information must be processed by Apple, Google, and our app development platform, Thunkable, to support the app and its operation. We limit this sharing to what is necessary and, based on those providers’ assurances, understand that the information is used for diagnostic purposes rather than advertising or resale.

These providers operate under their own privacy policies and retention practices. We do not control their independent storage locations or retention periods.

Service Providers and Other Disclosures

We use service providers where necessary to operate the website and app and deliver member communications, as described above. Providing information to these providers supports our services; it does not authorize unrelated advertising or marketing use.

We may also disclose information when required by law or when necessary to protect the security of our systems or the safety and rights of our members and organization.

Storage and Security

Data that the Labor Council itself collects and stores is maintained in the United States. This statement does not extend to the independent storage practices of third-party providers.

No method of internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure.

News Coverage

Our website may identify or discuss members in news articles about Labor Council activities and matters of interest to the membership. These published articles are distinct from private membership and registration records.

Questions and Requests

To unsubscribe from a mailing list, use the link at the bottom of a mailing-list message.

For questions about this policy or the information we maintain, or to request a correction or deletion, contact media@fop.org. Whether information can be changed or deleted depends on the record and its membership, administrative, or other retention purpose.

Changes to This Policy

We may revise these terms and this privacy policy as our services or practices change. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised last-updated date.
